Payday Loan Panel Discussion to be Held
Historical archive, first published 2006 — payday-lending laws and rates have changed since. Preserved for the record.
A panel discussion Sunday will offer Tucson residents information about the bad credit payday loan industry.
Payday Loans: More Harm Than Help?, sponsored by the nonprofit, nondenominational Little Chapel of All Nations, will examine the daily and weekly cost of cash advance loans that can include annual interest rates of more than 400 percent.
Panelists include Tucson City Council member Karin Uhlich, state Rep. Marian McClure, Diane M. Robles of Child & Family Resources, a nonprofit agency that offers a broad array of help to families, and Jay A. Raschke, chairman of the board of Huachuca Federal Credit Union.
The discussion is from 3-5 p.m. in University Medical Center's DuVal Auditorium, 1501 N. Campbell Ave. Anyone curious about the use of instant payday loans is welcome to attend.
